People Sustainability Award: Tackling discrimination

Creating a more inclusive work environment
We are working to create an even more inclusive work environment, doing our share in the fight against gender inequality and workplace discrimination. By actively strengthening employee engagement, leadership and team spirit, we offer an attractive work environment that supports personal and professional growth. Health and safety are also top priorities. To ensure that all our employees are safe and protected at work, we are continuously adapting and improving our health and safety programs. In addition, social engagement with (local) stakeholders is a vital part of our efforts to support sustainable development in our communities.

The Sustainability Council awarded the People with Impact award to this team for their proactive approach to tackling discrimination at Beckers Vietnam. The team was able to get all colleagues at both Vietnam sites to take part in Zero-Discrimination Training, to follow a new code of conduct and observe new recruiting rules. The project advances our goal of reducing inequalities and being a gender-balanced organization.eastSee also Zero Discrimination Day
The team in Vietnam used a workshop to create a space where they could openly discuss discrimination in the workplace and create a starting point for further initiatives. Beckers Vietnam had significantly improved its diversity ratio in recent years.
The training created an opportunity for colleagues to meet and learn more about the challenges facec by women and girls who experience discrimination in Vietnam. The training allowed the team to raise awareness for even broader issues such as unconscious bias and to table measures for zero discrimination at and outside the workplace. The jury especially liked the project’s inclusive and proactive approach, as well as its transferability to other Beckers locations around the world.

About the Beckers Sustainability Award
Every year Beckers rewards sustainable behavior with its Beckers Sustainability Award. The categories are aligned with our 2030 Sustainability Strategy, with awards going to projects that featuring people, products and operations that are making an impact. The Beckers Sustainability Council decides on a shortlist and judges them according to their effectiveness in advancing the goals of our 2030 Sustainability Strategy. It also takes into account their impact on our business, their level of innovation, their passion and commitment, and the transferability of the projects and ideas.
We would like to praise the engagement and creativity of all the employees who took part. Overall, we had 49 nominations from 11 Beckers sites in 2021 – the highest number of participants ever.
